A great class for beginners who have never picked up a calligraphy pen, but also great for other levels to continue to grow and perfect the art of pointed pen calligraphy in a modern style.
Take a one-day journey into the art of modern calligraphy with this fun calligraphy class in Seattle (Ballard). Learn how to create beautiful letterforms using pointed pens which are the style used to create Copperplate and Spencerian calligraphy and are being used today by many calligraphers particularly for modern calligraphy hands.
Students will learn the individual alphabet letters first, then continue with connecting letters and doing short phrases, and then finish with full sentences, learning layout tips and practice of a short poem or quotation. Students will also learn how to use a variety of inks - all while creating their own modern calligraphy style. Have fun putting your new skills to use by practicing addressing envelopes, making greeting cards and place cards.
Each student will received a complimentary Calligraphy Starter Kit (1 pen nib, 1 penholder and 1/2 oz. starter supply of ink, as well as calligraphy instruction booklet with sample alphabet guides). All papers, envelopes, greeting cards and inks will be provided by the instructor.
Are you Left- Handed? Pointed pens use the same nibs for left or right-handers with the straight penholders. Some left-handers might benefit from purchasing a left-handed oblique penholder here. Don't be shy if you are left-handed, the instructor has helped many left-handers learn how to create some beautiful calligraphy, and no extra tutoring is needed, please join the group class.
Class Signup Policy: Class fees are non-refundable. If you are unable to attend the 1st class and let the instructor know via phone or text (206-817-3479) or email by at least 2 hour before the start of the first class you are allowed one "rollover" to apply your payment to a future 3 week class. No shows will forfeit their payment. Thanks for understanding, as this class is very popular, has limited seating capacity and routinely has students on the wait list.

"It's a good way to jump start calligraphy practice, getting personal feedback before bad habits are formed. I was a little intimidated at the thought of using a dip pen, but it's actually very accessible." Lenore X., Seattle, WA
"A great introduction to an art form that can be done inexpensively and with an impressive outcome. How I hold the pen makes a HUGE difference - something I might not have figured out on my own." - Kathy S., Seattle, WA
"Yes! I loved how this class walked you through everything and that Caitlin made her rounds to help figure out where our strengths and weaknesses were. I think Caitlin is doing a great job! She obviously knows what she is doing and while she has many years under her belt, she still undertstands the beginner struggle and how to help people improve." Aleeza A., Seattle, WA.
"I really enjoyed your class last night and look forward to practicing my own swirly style of writing! Your hand writing is beautiful!!! I really found your comments encouraging....It helped me make it through the evening. Thanks again for a great time. " - Joan, Tukwila, WA
