Spontaneous Journaling is a fun evening workshop of play, bravery and learning to listen to your inner voice. Whether you are completely new to journaling or need to break through your artist’s block and really start creating - this workshop will help you fill page after page with color, brushstroke, mark making and writing too.

Learn methods to let go of preconceived notions about what to paint and how to paint and allow spontaneous magic to happen as colors interact. Work with simple acrylic painting techniques to fill your journals with color. We’ll move paint from one journal to another and use tools at hand for stamping and making marks as well. Students will work with gesso and acrylic paints, but are welcome to add in other favorite media or work with stencils.

Finally we will also work with some simple journal writing prompts to add lettering to your pages. Bring 3+ journals any sizes (can be already in progress) to add page after page of color, patterns, mark making, writing and fun.

She is friendly and upbeat, and offers a "way in" to creative expression for everyone, no matter what level of art experience one might possess. Caitlin is our Artist-in-Residence for 2019, and we feel so lucky that we get to offer monthly programs that feature her fantastic talent and her consummate professionalism." - Sibel Golden, PhD, Executive Director, NW Creative & Expressive Arts Institute

"The instructor and class pace is relaxed, allowing students to explore - she even encourages "mistakes!" - Dawn D.

“I loved how this class walked us through everything and that Caitlin made her rounds to help figure out where our strengths and weaknesses were. I think Caitlin does a great job as an instructor! She obviously knows what she is doing and while she has many years under her belt, she still understands the beginner struggle and how to help people improve." - Aleeza A.
