Are you ready for a fabulous in-depth mixed media workshop starting with basics of collage and building a variety of techniques for creating some beautiful bird art?  This 3-day workshop is perfect for newbies to mixed media, but also fantastic for intermediate and advanced artists to rejuvenate with new techniques to create beautiful art.

What to expect:
Practice begins on watercolor paper and then proceeds with canvas or wood panel as the weekend progresses, creating an excellent workshop in processes and techniques as well as working on 3 pieces of art.

Supplies to bring:

  • 4, 11 inch x 14 inch hot press watercolor paper like 140 lb. Fabriano Artistico or Arches Aquarelle
  • 3, 11” x 14” canvas or wood panels (instructor loves deep cradled wood panels)
  • water container
  • assorted brushes for acrylics (instructor recommends 1 inch flat and ¼ inch flat plus smaller pointed brushes for detail work)
  • paper towels
  • baby wipes
  • 8 oz. jar of white acrylic gesso
  • 8 oz. jar of acrylic soft gel in matte, gloss or semi-gloss
  • 2-3+ colors of acrylic heavy body or fluid acrylics
  • scissors, optional X-Acto knife
  • ball point pen, pencil
  • Optional: bring your own assortment of small bird images or other collage ephemera, rubber stamps/stencils, heat tool.

From one-on-one instruction, to dozens of instructor demos and daily group critiques provide students with gentle advice on problem solving, letting go of pre-conceived notions and embracing the wabi-sabi nature of mixed media art. Finally, the class will benefit with this professional calligrapher's techniques and tips for working with a variety of tools for handmade lettering or mark-making. Students can work with optional handlettering, rubber stamped/stenciled letters or collaged letters to create their inspirational bird artwork.
